Esteemed Fellow Princeton Progressives –
We have a great September cooked up for our Central Jersey PPro Chapter. Like any good stew, it has little bit of many things.
Sept 7 – 8: First off there is Voter Registration in Super State PA! Yes – PA has been studied by Swing Left and it is a state that can flip Blue in many categories: State House, Governor, and Presidential Election. Central Jersey PPro has teamed up with Swing Left Central Jersey, and the NYC Upper West Side Move On/Indivisible group to help out with Voter Registration. Yes – we are going door to door canvassing to get new voters signed up. The New Yorkers are coming to canvass, and we are driving and helping out. Swing Left provides the lists we working on. You need the Minivan App on your phone (android version here, iOS version here ). This will continue for two more weekends in September. This is a fun event for NYC PPro-ers as well – make sure to connect with the Upper West Side Move On/Indivisible group. The activity repeats on September 14 – 15 too. You can come down from NYC or you can join up with us here in Central Jersey, and help drive to Levittown PA where the canvassing takes place. It’s an all day thing. Details are on the Swing Left Central Jersey site.
Sept 17 : Secondly, Central Jersey Swing Left meeting at our house in the Princeton area! We will have a nice potluck dinner, and write letters to voters in other Super States inspiring them to vote! We’ll discuss our next steps too. RSVP here!
Sept 19: And last but not least, Letter writing to free Xiyue Wang, a Princeton Graduate student who has been unjustly imprisoned in Iran while doing research on primary sources for his dissertation. Early August marked the third year he has been in prison. We will have a speaker from the Grad School, post cards, and letters to write to presidential candidates, demanding that they speak out on this issue. Of course you are welcomed to write to other influential people as well. This will also be a pot luck event, so please bring food to share. You can read about some of the media coverage (NY Times, CNN, NPR and more) through this link https://freexiyuewang.com/recent-news/ .
Please RSVP for the September 19 Potluck and letter writing here.
Can’t make it to these events? Consider starting a PPro Chapter where you live. Consider getting involved with a Swing Left group in your area. Consider making a donation to PPro to keep this kind of work going. PPro also works with Princeton University student groups and funds canvassing and The Prog and other great progressive activity on campus.
Looking forward to seeing you in September!
Noemi and the Central Jersey PPro Chapter Volunteers
