Princeton Progressives teamed up with the Princeton DREAM team to raise funding for a group of passionate students who wanted to spend a day lobbying Congress for immigration reform. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, they were able to go. Here’s their report:
“Our DREAM Team lobbying day was an absolute success. In the end, we were able to get together thirty extremely passionate Princetonians to meet with more than 25 legislators in Washington. For some of us, this was the first time being in our nation’s capital and certainly our first experience as lobbyists. We were able to persuade some congressmen to become advocates for reform, and effectively presented our case to those who oppose it. In the end, we received key insight that allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the issues affecting the prospects of C.I.R. But, while the main purpose of our trip was to serve as advocates for immigrants across the country, we also gained a valuable lesson into civic engagement that will prove invaluable for the rest of our political lives. We left feeling empowered not only to continue fighting for reform, but also for every issue that affects us.”
